Broads and Dudes Over 40

As far as the contents of this gift go, it’s a mixed bag when you’re an old bag like me.

I tend to find that liquid lipsticks can be problematic for those of us who have lines around our mouths. When I review the lippies, I’ll be noting any settling or movement of the products throughout the wear testing on these items, and also how they look over lip texture, since many of us struggle with dryness as we age. I tend to prefer creamier and ‘softer’ products with good moisture as a result, and that usually means a shorter wear time.

With hair care, I’ve found that products with anti-aging claims are often exaggerated. It’s best to seek out ingredients that promote scalp health and hair growth, as well as general hydration. Dryness, again, is often an issue for mature hair — mine was oily when I was young, and became dry as I hit my thirties. It is now dry enough that I use very emollient products that would have been a disaster on younger-me’s hair. Hair masks are something I like a lot these days — I don’t use them often, but in the past, I’ve liked the results with a good one. In many cases, the packets can hold more than one use worth of product, so a ziploc baggie can be your friend if you want to try them out — you may get multiple uses!

Primers become a much more useful thing as we age and skin gains texture, more lines, and becomes less elastic. I dislike mattifying primers, personally, because I feel like matte products tend to draw the eye to my age-related flaws. I prefer a natural or lightly-dewy finish, and light coverage, because I feel that is the nicest look for me. While I’m more or less okay with my wrinkles, I don’t want them to be the first thing that’s noticed.

Since hydration is so important for mature skin, the First Aid Beauty and Boscia samples will be particularly useful. Kopari apparently has really good products, but in many cases, they’re so heavily based in coconut oil that you can find far less expensive alternatives.
